Homemade Irish cream

St. Patrick’s Day is coming! Why not celebrate with your own Irish cream? This is kind of cobbled together from a bunch of different recipes, adjusted for what sounded good to me.

I used:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1Ā  cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups Irish whiskey
  • 1 packet VIA instant coffee (or 2 Tbsp. strong brewed coffee or espresso)
  • 2 tbsp chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Your goal here is to blend this all really, really well — I used an immersion blender, but just tossing it all in your regular blender will work fine too. Store it in the fridge in a container that can be shaken up because the chocolate will settle to the bottom as it sits. Serve over ice or in coffee. Enjoy!

  1. I wonder if this would still taste good enough without the alcohol. I’ll have to try this out. It looks yummy and smooth. I love the carafe/container, too!

  2. Just how big is that can of condensed milk? How much in mL? I’m from a different country, and I don’t know if we have the same standard condensed milk can. This sounds yummy!

  3. Is the coffee required?? I have people in my house who are either allergic to or otherwise do not like coffee.
Well it would change the flavor a bit, obviously, but the volume isn’t enough to mess anything up. If folks are allergic I think it would be fine! It doesn’t end up with a real coffee flavor, so the folks who don’t like coffee may like the Irish cream regardless. Let me know how it turns out! ~ OPK

  4. My hubby just loved this idea and we tried it, and the taste is great, a little stronger than we expected, but something strange happened. DON’T OVER BLEND IT! Whipping cream turns to butter when over blended, so we had this mass of irish cream butter floating in the top of our blender, but when life gives me irish cream butter, I’m gonna make coffee flavored muffins, but anyway, just a tip.
    ENJOY!
IRISH CREAM BUTTER! Oh that could be a whole new post! I mean, not ideal for drinking of course. šŸ˜‰ ~OPK
