About/Meet Erin

Welcome!

These are the recipes and food-related ramblings of me: Erin, a Southern mama. I cook for my husband, The Yankee, and my pre-schooler The Kiddo (who doesn’t like anything). The Peanut will arrive soon, and she’ll be easy to feed for a while. ;)

The Kiddo is a carbivore; he could happily survive on Cheerios, crackers and bread, so I’m constantly looking for ways to introduce a little variety into his diet. Variety that he’ll actually eat, of course, is the trick.

The Yankee loves meat and lots of it. If you’re looking for vegetarian dishes, you’re probably not going to like it here.

What do I love? Food. Real food. With ingredients I can pronounce. Is there a time and place for a mix? Sure! But should it be every meal every day? Heck no. I hate fat-free food that shouldn’t be (like cheese. Fat free cheese? What IS that even?). I love old recipes with simple instructions. I love good food that anyone can cook. And of course I love a good dessert. Who doesn’t?

I learned to cook when I was a very little girl because my mom found it educational to teach us how to cook. That or she hated cooking… I was never sure. Either way, I knew my way around cast iron when it was still a little too heavy for me to lift it, and I’m very grateful for that. My daddy (also a Yankee, by the way) taught me that cooking doesn’t have to involve complicated recipes; that experimentation is great, and that spaghetti is the perfect Christmas supper.

And why One Particular Kitchen? Well it goes like this: The Yankee and I love the beach.  Our one particular harbor is Orange Beach, Alabama. Our first date was there, we got engaged there, and we were supposed to get married there. Thanks a lot, Ivan. Since we can’t be there all the time, we like to have little reminders of it when we can; hence: One Particular Kitchen.

So stick around! Learn about cast iron. Make some yogurt. Enjoy some pot pie. Any particular recipes you want to see? Let me know: erin at oneparticularkitchen dot com.

A final note: I love it when people make my recipes. I love it when people blog my recipes. But please do not use photos or text without my permission. Pretty please ask me first, and pretty please link me so I can see your fabulous food!
