These are the recipes and food-related ramblings of me: Erin, a Southern mama. I cook for my husband, The Yankee, and our son, The Kiddo, and The Peanut, our daughter.

The Yankee loves meat and lots of it. If you’re looking for vegetarian dishes, you’re probably not going to like it here.

What do I love? Food. Real food. With ingredients I can pronounce. Is there a time and place for a mix? Sure! But should it be every meal every day? Obviously not. I hate fat-free food that shouldn’t be (like cheese. Fat free cheese? What IS that even?). I love old recipes with simple instructions. I love good food that anyone can cook. And of course I love a good dessert. Who doesn’t?

I learned to cook when I was a very little girl because my mom found it educational to teach us how to cook. That or she hated cooking… I was never sure. Either way, I knew my way around cast iron when it was still a little too heavy for me to lift it, and I’m very grateful for that. My daddy (also a Yankee, by the way) taught me that cooking doesn’t have to involve complicated recipes; that experimentation is great, and that spaghetti is the perfect Christmas supper.

And why One Particular Kitchen? Well it goes like this: The Yankee and I love the beach. Our one particular harbor is Orange Beach, Alabama. Our first date was there, we got engaged there, and we were supposed to get married there back in 2004. But we didn’t. Since we can’t be there all the time, we like to have little reminders of it when we can; hence: One Particular Kitchen.

    Thank you for this wonderful blog of yours that I found last week. I have enjoyed reading it so very much, as it is food that I can really enjoy. I had weight loss surgery in October, 2008, and I’ve lost 105 pounds. I must do a high protein, low carb plan for the rest of my life, so your delicious breads and desserts would not be on my plan. But I wanted to tell you that I made your Pork Chops with Blue Cheese Gravy along side your Roasted Broccoli this weekend, and…oh, yum! So, so good, and exactly what I can eat! (And maybe one day when I’m on maintenance, I can try a bread or a dessert as a treat! Only 27 more pounds to go for goal!) Anyway, thanks again. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to do this, and I wanted you to know how very much it’s appreciated. Take care!
